Emeriti Faculty Featured in Manetti Shrem Museum Landscape Exhibition

“Landscape Without Boundaries,” opening July 14 at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, explores the many ways artists can approach the landscape. Drawn entirely from the museum collection, the exhibition includes art by emeriti faculty members Robert Arneson, Roy De Forest, Mike Henderson, Roland Petersen, Cornelia Schulz, Wayne Thiebaud and William Wiley, and alumni Deborah Butterfield and Maija Peeples-Bright.

The wide-ranging works by 33 artists explore the ways in which painting, sculpture and drawing address Northern California’s landscape blend of nature, agriculture and industry.

The exhibition includes Arneson’s monumental 1974 sculpture, “The Palace at 9 a.m.,” based on his former home on Alice Street in Davis, along with birds-eye view paintings by Thiebaud.

The exhibition runs through Dec. 15. An opening event takes place July 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. The event and the museum are free and open to the public.
