The big band is comprised of members of the student body who are interested in playing jazz music in the big band tradition. Each band plays a variety of great music and culminating in a performance in the Recital Hall at the Ann E. Pitzer Center. Prior jazz ensemble experience is not required and all majors are accepted.
The Department of Music swings on certain evenings when the Jazz Bands of UC Davis rehearse for their upcoming Nov. 29 concert. Under the direction of Jacám Manricks, the Bands have been working on music by Aretha Franklin, Latin Jazz, Jazz Funk Fusion and a premiere a new suite by Manricks. Jazz composer/arranger, saxophonist/woodwind player and music educator Jacam Manricks has been a highly respected figure among the New York City jazz scene for over thirteen years. Manricks has released highly acclaimed albums as a leader (Labyrinth, Trigonometry, Cloud Nine, Chamber Jazz, and GilManricks) and performed as a sideman on countless other releases.
