Indhu Rubasingham
Winter 2003

Indhu Rubasingham directed Moliere’s The Misanthrope, adapted by Martin Crimp, at Chichester, and was an Associate Director on the Andrew Lloyd Webber production of Bombay Dreams. Upon arriving at UC Davis, she had directed 20 world premieres with major theatre companies, including the Royal National Theatre, The Royal Court, The Tricycle Theatre, Birmingham Rep Theatre, Young Vic Studio and Theatre Royal Stratford East.


Her 2001 work included a main stage adaptation of the Ramayana at Birmingham Rep, which transferred to the Olivier, National Theatre; Clubland by Roy Williams at the Royal Court Upstairs; and David Hare’s The Secret Rapture at Chichester Festival Theatre.

Rubasingham has been Associate Director at the Gate Theatre and Birmingham Rep. She established her own theatre company, INDOSA, which developed a large-scale site-specific project at Three Mill Island: A River Sutra by Gita Mehta in association with the National Theatre Studio. At UC Davis during winter quarter 2003, Rubasingham directed Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros.
