Alums Collaborate on “What Is Bae?”

MFA alum Lucas Hatton and BFA alumna Leah Daugherty are collaborating on “What Is Bae?” for Bike City Theatre Company. Billed as a sketch show and a play, the production begins performances on Feb. 7 at Sudwerk Brewing Co. in Davis.

“The Bluest Eye” Selected by Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival Regionals

The judging committee for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival has selected the UC Davis Department of Theatre and Dance production of “The Bluest Eye” for its regional competition in February 2019.

Doctoral Student Program Receives State Grant

The California Arts Council, a state agency, announced that it plans to award $2,500 to a collaborative effort between the City of Davis, DJUSD, and the UC Davis Department of Theatre and Dance as part of its Professional Development grants program.

Giving Up/Giving It Up
The Other Show

Arena Theatre

The Department of Theatre and Dance presents two MFA projects in one performance. “Giving Up/Giving It Up” is created and performed by Kevin Dockery and “The OTHER Show” is created and performed by Slater Penney. Dockery and Penny are graduate students.   

Their works will be performed 9-12 at 7 p.m. in Wright Hall’s Arena Theatre. Admission is by donation, suggested $5.

All My Possessions for a Moment of Time, An MFA Project
Wyatt Pavilion Theatre

The Department of Theatre and Dance presents “All My Possessions for a Moment of Time,” an MFA project, created by graduate student by Joseph Schupbach.  

The work will be performed 9-12 at 7 p.m. in the Wyatt Pavilion Theatre on Old Davis Road. Admission is by donation, suggested $5. 

Written and directed by Joseph Schupbach, the performance features choreography by Ayo Walker, performance studies alumna, and Lena Rose Polzonetti, graduate student. Costume design is by  graduate student Tasa Gleason.

Call for Submissions for 2019 Film Fest at UC Davis

Submissions are now open for new works by student filmmakers for Film Fest @ UC Davis 2019. Celebrating its 19th year, the committee is seeking short films no longer than eight minutes in length (including credits) by April 12. Entries are open to all UC Davis students and recent graduates. 

The festival will be held May 8 and 9 at the Varsity Theatre in downtown Davis. Doors open at 9 p.m. and screenings begin at 9:30 p.m.

Arena Theatre

The Department of Theatre and Dance presents “CIRCUS,” an MFA project, created and performed by graduate student by Tara Brandel.  

The work will be performed April 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. in the Arena Theatre in Wright Hall. Admission is by donation, suggested $5.

“Parity”
Spring Quarter Production

Wyatt Pavilion Theatre

The Department of Theatre and Dance present “Parity,” a new play by Andrew Nicholls, on May 16-18 and 23-25 at 7 p.m. and May 18 and 25 at 2.p.m. in the Wyatt Pavilion Theatre.  

Nicholls is the spring 2019 Granada Artist-in-Residence. “Parity” was showcased in the 2018 Ground and Field Theatre Festival. 

The production will be directed by alumna Josy Miller.

Outside the Lines, Spring Quarter
Main Theatre, Wright Hall

“Outside the Lines, Spring Quarter,” presented by the College of Letters and Science’s Department of Theatre and Dance, features new choreography created by graduate and undergraduate students.  

Performances are Thursday through Saturday, May 23-25 at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. performance on May 25 in the Wright Hall Main Theatre.

The new choreographies in the performance have been curated by David Grenke, theatre and dance department chair.
